How to set up IPTV on VLC Player

VLC is one of the most widely used players for IPTV. It's a free, open-source, cross-platform media player from the VideoLAN project, available on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS.

Good to know: VLC on iOS/Android can struggle with very large M3U lists (thousands of items). For a full package, a dedicated IPTV app like GSE Smart IPTV or IPTV Smarters gives a smoother experience โ€” many of them can even use VLC as an external player.

How to add IPTV to VLC Player

FAQs

Why does VLC crash when loading my M3U link?

This usually happens with very large playlists (60,000+ items). Trim the list to fewer categories โ€” you can hide channel/VOD groups you don't need from your IPTV dashboard, then reload.

Can I see channel groups (bouquets) in VLC?

No โ€” VLC shows a flat list. If you want organised groups/EPG, use an app like GSE Smart IPTV, Perfect Player or IPTV Smarters.

Can I record a channel in VLC?

Yes, on desktop: after loading your list, use Playback > Record, then stop to save. On Mac, enable Stream Output in the Open Network dialog and set a save location first.
